A brilliant place with great food and very welcoming. Friday night was quiz night. We joined in and had a great laugh. The locals and staff were very welcoming and we are looking forward to going back very soon. Its quite a small place but has a good menu with the normal pub choices and some that are a bit different. Definately one to give a go!

I eat in this fantastic local regularly and endorse everything Rob has already written: it's very clean, welcoming and NON SMOKING. The food is good and the atmosphere peaceful and pleasant. People from 3 to 93 are equally welcomed and will be left alone or included in the conversation as they prefer. The staff are natural and friendly without being fussy, and the owner is there most nights. They have real beers and regularly changing guest beers.

We discovered this secret (the Ship) several years ago: - The menu is varied and extremely reasonably priced. - The food is freshly made, nicely presented, and just the right portion size - The beer is excellent (which pleases my husband who is a real ale enthusiast). - There are plenty of vegetarian options (I'm the veggie) - not the usual mushroom stroganoff etc - It's non-smoking, which is ideal for the kids and the adults! - There's no TV or blaring music - Loos are clean with lots of thoughtful 'nice things' It's simply a wonderful country pub, serving really good food, in a really nice, clean and friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

I went to a private function at the Ship Inn, the food was great - a BBQ outside, and the atmosphere was good. The pub is tastefully decorated and the bar staff very friendly. We will definatly be going there for a meal in the near future!

The Ship is a cosy village pub which serves tasty home cooked food at reasonable prices. The pub is beautifully clean and smells fresh.....no stale beer in carpets or smoky smells. It is non smoking, making it ideal for families and non-smokers. They do allow smoking in the garden which has heating and shelter for the winter, a Wendy House for the kids, and estuary views. They run a really fun quiz on a Thursday at 9pm with a cash prize, and the regulars make strangers feel very welcome. The menu has a good choice of meat or veggie meals, and special diets aren't a problem, especially if you can let them know in advance. They are open for food from 4pm every night through the summer, but are closed on Mon Tue & Wed from the Autumn through the winter. Attached to the pub is a hostel where you can stay if you don't want to drive home, or if you fancy a few days in the South Lakes.
